Shillong: The mechanic and motor vehicle section at the government-run Industrial Technical Institute (ITI), Shillong, will be upgraded into a world-class automobile section in collaboration with Tata Motors Limited. The section will be commissioned later this year."Employment and employability delivery systems in Meghalaya are being improved through the setting up of government ITIs and implementation of innovative skill development programmes," said labour minister Ampareen Lyndoh at the National Consultation Workshop on Industry Career Centre, ITI Collaboration, organized by the Union ministry of labour and employment at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday.
"The objective of the workshop was to enhance employment and employability through career counselling and vocational training. It was also aimed at transforming employment exchanges into career centres and reorienting vocational training to meet the requirements of the industry," an official said. Pointing out that the Union labour ministry would assist the state in developing a 'model ITI', Lyngdoh said the state government has identified an ITI at Tura for the purpose. She also requested the labour minister to sanction funds for the two proposed ITIs at Khliehriat and Mawkyrwat.
